A 19-year-old is in jail for allegedly shooting and killing a 16-year-old in New Iberia early Friday morning.

City police say Jeyohn Mikelle Augustine shot the male victim through a window of a home on St. Jude Avenue between St. John and St. Mary streets.

The 16-year-old was taken to the hospital where he died soon after arriving.

Augustine was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail with first-degree murder. His bond was set at $1 million.

During the investigation, officers linked Augustine and Joshua Markell James to a December 29 shooting on Walton Street, between W Dale Street and Ambassador W Lemell Drive, where a 15-year-old was shot while walking down the street.

The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

Augustine is additionally facing one count of conspiracy to commit murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder in connection with that case.

James was arrested and booked into the parish jail with conspiracy to commit murder and attempted second-degree murder.
