Two people are in jail in connection with a fatal overdose in New Iberia.
Iberia Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a medical emergency shortly after midnight on Tuesday and found the 27-year-old victim dead at a home on Old Spanish Trail, near Airport Blvd., according to a spokesman with the sheriff’s office.
Both suspects were booked into the parish jail yesterday. Taylor Maturin is facing one count of second-degree murder, one count of obstruction of justice, and multiple drug and court violations.
Chad Viator is facing one count of accessory to second-degree murder and one count of obstruction of justice.
The spokesperson says the suspects’ stories did not match the circumstances of the situation or match the condition of the victim.
Deputies believe the suspects either supplied the victim with illegal drugs or administered them.
The identity of the victim has yet to be released.
