A social media post showing a New Iberia Officer sharing a special moment with a toddler at the Sugar Cane Festival parade on Saturday has gone viral.
The boy’s mother, Shaday Crosby, shared the post on Saturday and in it praises the officer for creating the special moment with her son while they enjoyed the morning Children’s Parade.
The Facebook post shows photos and video of Officer Bryce Melancon holding and dancing with Crosby’s son Ashaad. In her post, Crosby says that Melancon was standing in front of them during the parade and was hesitant to ask about holding the toddler.
When Melancon finally asked to hold the toddler, Crosby says her son enjoyed every minute. “He just smiled at him and kept staring at him,” her post reads.
A short video shows Officer Melancon crouched down holding Ashaad up and helping him dance to the music of a band as it passes along the parade route.
Crosby says that she wanted to share the heartfelt moment because she says, “Officer Melancon definitely deserves the recognition.” Her post concludes with the statement in all caps that, “NOT ALL COPS ARE BAD COPS…THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.”
