Family Promise of Acadiana is celebrating its 15th anniversary as a local nonprofit helping homeless families with children achieve long-term independence.
The organization provides intensive case management to provide families the tools they need to sustain independent living.
Serving families that find themselves in a homeless situation, Executive Director Renee Menard says that the ultimate goal is to get them back on their feet and prevent them from repeating the cycle of being homeless.
Food, shelter and extensive care is provided to the families to overcome their obstacles.
Family Promise of Acadiana works closely with the Lafayette Parish School System's Homeless Ed Program. Menard says that since the first two months of school, the LPSS has already helped around 600 students enroll in school. They also serve about 1500 kids throughout the year.
The program is operated by volunteers who participate through an interfaith network of local church congregations.
A number of events are planned to celebrate 15 years of Family Promise of Acadiana.
