One person has been arrested and other arrests are pending following a shooting and altercation in Ville Platte on Monday.
As reported we Monday, Ville Platte Police arrested four individuals in connection with a shooting investigation. Tuesday Chief Lartigue now tells KATC that one of those people have been arrested and the three other arrests are pending.
Police responded to a call of shots-fired investigation on North Soileau and West Huey P. Long at around 4:00 p.m. Officers say that there was an altercation between a man and three of his relatives. According to a report a man ran over the foot of one of the other men and a fight began. One person threw multiple punches, another grabbed a bat and assaulted the driver of the vehicle and a third person grabbed a gun. The driver allegedly fled the scene in the vehicle and hit another vehicle before finally hitting a tree.
The reports also stated that there were multiple shots fired between the parties.
All four were brought in for questioning and three have been released. The investigation is ongoing and Chief Neal Lartigue stated that the three other participants in the altercation will be facing charges as well.
Arrested in the incident was 48-year-old Kenneth Ashley Sr. of Ville Platte. He was booked on one count of aggravated battery, one count of aggravated assault with a firearm, illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentality, disturbing the peace, careless operation, no insurance, and driving under suspension.
Ashley is currently in the Ville Platte City Jail and is being transferred to the Evangeline Parish Jail on a $110,000 bond.
