Ville Platte breaks down proposed utility rate increase

Ville Platte city leaders are breaking down the proposed utility rate increases for residents and businesses.

The group held a meeting to discuss why they need to raise those rates and how they plan on doing so. Last week the board proposed a one-year increase, but some council members are considering a two to three-year increase.

Council members say regardless of how it’s done, the increase is necessary.

“We’re doing this, not because of we’re just doing it. We’re doing it because we’re trying to keep the city viable. We’re trying to keep increasing city services. As you can see in our town, city services have failed. But we’re trying to get it back to what it needs to be,” said Councilman Bryant Riggs.
