Ville Platte Police warning businesses of scam calls

Posted

Chief Neal Lartigue has issued a warning to local businesses about recent scam calls received by several businesses. The chief is also asking for any information on those calls.

Lartigue says officers are currently investigating two incidents where businesses were contacted by an out of state number. The male caller reportedly states that he is a lieutenant with the Federal Marshal’s Office and needs information about the business.

The information asked for during the calls include how many employees are on duty and how much money is located at the business, according to Lartigue.

One business reported to police that the caller told the manager who answered to remove all of the money from their safe for pick up.

Chief Lartigue says that business owners and employees should be aware of these types of calls and never give any sensitive information to anyone over the phone.

Businesses who receive these calls are asked to write down the number and as much information as possible. That information should be reported immediately to the Ville Platte Police Department at 337-363-1313.
