A Eunice man has been arrested for intentionally setting his vehicle on fire in March before reporting that vehicle stolen.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office says 39-year-old Travis McGee was arrested and booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail on Tuesday, May 7 on one count of Arson With Intent to Defraud.
Deputies say that the Basile Fire Department responded to a call of a vehicle on fire in the middle of Cemien Road in Basile on March 31. While assessing the scene, deputies say it was determined that the fire was intentionally set.
During the investigation, McGee, who owns the vehicle, allegedly reported that the vehicle had been stolen.
When questioned by investigators, McGee allegedly told several conflicting stories about the night of the fire. McGee was eventually identified as a suspect in the case and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
McGee turned himself in on Tuesday, May 7.
