St. Landry and Evangeline Parish public schools will be closed tomorrow due to winter weather.
Sacred Heart in Ville Platte will be closed as well.
Warriors for Christ Christian Academy in Opelousas will be closed tomorrow due to weather.
Here’s the statement we received from St. Landry Superintendent Patrick Jenkins:
“Based on the prediction by the National Weather Service (NWS) that the possibility
of a wintery mix and/or snow has been expanded southward, all St. Landry Parish Public schools will be closed Tuesday, January 29, 2019 for the safety of our students, drivers, and employees. We will continue to confer with the NWS and the Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEM). The safety of our students and employees remains our main focus in this decision-making process.”
Evangeline Parish public schools will be closed Tuesday, January 29, 2019, according to Superintendent Darwan Lazard.

“After reviewing weather predictions from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lake Charles and consulting with Evangeline Parish 911/Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) Director Liz Hill and School Board President Wayne Dardeau, I have decided to close all Evangeline Parish Schools and District Offices tomorrow (Tuesday, January 29, 2019).
Thus far, Evangeline Parish has been added to the Winter Weather Advisory area. While experts at the NWS-Lake Charles are not certain if we will or will not receive ice/snow, the safety and well-being of our students, employees and communities remain our primary concern.
We are announcing this decision at this time, in order for our parents/legal guardians, families, etc. to be able to make appropriate adjustments/arrangements.

The Diocese of Lafayette has also closed several schools ahead of the winter weather.
The following Catholic schools in the Diocese of Lafayette will be closed on Tuesday, January 29, 2019.

- St. Edmund in Eunice
- Opelousas Catholic
- St. Ignatius Catholic School in Grand Coteau
