A man from Bunkie is in jail after allegedly pointing a gun toward a crowd of people near Ville Platte High School Friday evening.

According to Ville Platte Chief of Police Neal Lartigue, officers responded to a report of shots fired on Harvey Lebas Street at 7:30 p.m. Upon their arrival, they saw 23-year-old Devin Winzer get out of a white car and point a gun toward the crowd, the chief says.

A football game was going on at the high school.

As officers commanded Winzer to drop his gun, he allegedly got back inside the car.

Officers then physically removed the suspect from the car and arrested him, according to the chief.

No one was injured.

Winzer was booked into the Ville Platte City Jail with felony aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of a firearm in a school zone, and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.

No bond has been set at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
