Louisiana State Police Troop D says that a Texas woman has died from injuries she sustained in a single-vehicle crash on I-10 in Calcasieu Parish Sunday morning.
Troopers say the crash happened around 9:45 am on I-10 just west of Vinton on May 26. A 2012 Can-Am Spyder three-wheeled motorcycle was traveling west on I-10 when troopers say the tire thread began to separate from a rear wheel.
The driver of the vehicle lost control causing the motorcycle to rotate clockwise, overturn and slide off the right side of the roadway before overturning again.
The driver and passenger of the motorcycle were both ejected from the vehicle.
Troopers say both were wearing DOT approved helmets at the time of the crash.
The driver sustained minor injuries and the passenger, identified as 59-year-old Anita Marie Collins of Houston sustained life-threatening injuries. Both were taken to a Lake Charles hospital for treatment.
State Police say they were notified on Monday, May 27 that the passenger, Anita Collins, had succumbed to the injuries she sustained in the crash.
A toxicology sample was taken from the driver and he was cited for no motorcycle endorsement and careless operation.
The crash remains under investigation.
