A Lake Charles teacher was arrested and booked Tuesday on charges of first-degree rape and indecent behavior with a juvenile.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office says that 34-year-old Deidre R. Smith of Sulphur was arrested after deputies received a complaint regarding a possible inappropriate relationship between Smith and one of her 10-year-old students.
Smith is reportedly a teacher at Lake Charles Charter Academy.
Deputies say that an investigation uncovered that Smith had allegedly been in a relationship with the child since the end of 2018. Smith also allegedly had sexual intercourse with the victim.
Smith was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correction Center on charges of first-degree rape and felony indecent behavior with a juvenile. She was released the same day on a $50,000 bond.
