A teenager has been arrested in connection with a fire at a rental home her family was being evicted from.

According to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the 17-year-old, who is not being identified, turned herself in to the officers in Lake Charles. She was booked with simple arson for the fire in the 200 block of Jefferson Street in DeQuincy.

Investigators say on March 20, the DeQuincy Fire Department requested the assistance of the SFM in determining the origin and cause of a house fire located in the 200 block of Jefferson Street.. Investigators say they determined there were multiple areas of origin and that the fire was intentionally set.

During the investigation, deputies learned the teen was the only one in the home at the time of the fire. Following an interview with investigators, a warrant was obtained for her arrest.

The teenager turned herself in to authorities while accompanied by a guardian, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
