Sulphur Police say they are investigating a major two-vehicle crash that left one critically injured on Sunday night.

Police Chief Lewis Coats says the two-vehicle crash occurred around 6:00 pm on Sunday at Beglis Pkwy and Carr Lane in Sulphur.

An investigation into the crash revealed that a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling westbound on Carr Lane when it failed to stop at a stop sign before entering onto Beglis Pkwy. The Chevrolet was struck by a 2015 Ford F150 traveling northbound on Beglis Pkwy. According to police, the driver of the Chevrolet had to be extracted from the vehicle by the Sulphur Fire Department.

That person was transported to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. The occupants of the Ford were uninjured in the crash.

Police say that alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology tests are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.
