Chamber of commerce presents proposal for new Calcasieu River Bridge

Posted

The Chamber Southwest Louisiana is hoping their proposal for a new Calcasieu River Bridge—the bridge on I-10 between Lake Charles and Westlake—will come to fruition.

Today, the chamber presented their design: a bridge consisting of six lanes, modern lighting, walking/bike paths, 73-foot clearance, and shoulders, KPLC reports. It would be constructed north of and parallel to the current I-10 bridge.

According to members of the Chamber SWLA, the proposal would cost between $400 and $600 million.

The proposal would first have to be approved by DOTD and the governor.

Chamber SWLA Vice Chairman Bart Yakupzack is calling on the help of private investors if the project is approved.
