State Police are now investigating after a man shot by a Lake Charles Police officer Friday morning, and later died.
According to State Police, an officer from the Lake Charles Police Department was involved in a shooting near the intersection of Martin Luther King Highway and Pineview Street in Lake Charles.
The officer according to Troopers was responding to the RaceWay gas station on Martin Luther King Highway after receiving a complaint about a man threatening someone with a gun. The officer located the the suspect about a block away and during the encounter discharged his weapon striking the man. The man has been identified as 26-year-old Juston Joseph Landry of Lake Charles.
According to State Police, Landry collapsed in a nearby parking lot and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No officers were injured.
The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations responded to the scene at the request of Lake Charles Police Department to investigate the incident/shooting. The investigation remains active and is ongoing. No further information is available at this time.
