The Sheriff in Calcasieu Parish says a man was killed after a tree uprooted and landed on top of the U-Haul truck the victim was in.
This morning at approximately 11:00 the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a one-vehicle crash on E. Burton St. in Sulphur. The investigation revealed a U-Haul truck was traveling east on Burton when a large tree uprooted thought to be due to wind and saturation of the ground from the vast amount of rainfall this morning, fell across the road and landed on the cab of the truck.
The 33-year-old driver was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. The passenger, William Hood, 68, (father of the driver), was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both men are from Sulphur.
