A Lafayette man was arrested this morning after the vehicle he was allegedly driving hit and killed a 13-year-old walking on the side of the road.
A spokesman with Louisiana State Police says 33-year-old Jacob Ryan Hebert was driving on LA 385 near Weeks Lane in Calcasieu Parish around 5 a.m. when the crash happened.
Troopers say Hebert hit 13-year-old Kyrin Pete while he was walking with two other people on the shoulder of the highway.
Pete was transported to a local hospital where he later died. Hebert was arrested and is facing vehicular homicide and DWI charges.
Hebert, who goes by the name Dorian Phibian, ran in 2016 as a Democrat in the 3rd Congressional raceand was defeated by Rep. Clay Higgins.
