One arrested in fatal Lake Charles shooting

Lake Charles Police have arrested a local man in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and another wounded last night.

Jeremiah Elijahjuan Ellis, 21, was booked with second-degree murder. His bond is set at $200,000.

The shooting happened at about 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Lilly Street. Policel found Elgin Green, 35, suffering from numerous gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. A second man also was shot, but he received non-life-threatening wounds and was transported to a local hospital in a private car, police said.

Green and the wounded man were allegedly involved in a fight inside a vehicle, and when they got out of the vehicle they were shot, police say.

Investigators allege that Ellis shot Green; he was arrested and booked.

The investigation is continuing, a spokesman said.

The responding officers were Officers John McCloskey and Mildred Joseph. The lead investigators are Detective Sergeant John Russell and Detective Colby Thompson.
