The Sulphur Police Department says they are investigating a vehicle crash involving a train at North Crocker Street and West Verdine Street crossing.
Chief Lewis Coasts say that the crash occurred around 5:30 pm on Monday and seriously injured 22-year-old Grant Marshall Ozment of Webster, Texas. Police say that Ozment was traveling north at the time of the crash and failed to yield to a westbound Union Pacific Train.
Police say that Ozment’s phone was found at the scene of the accident open to a map application. Police believe Ozment may have been distracted at the time of the crash.
Ozment was transported to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital with major injuries. He was later transferred to Lafayette General. Police say Ozment is currently in critical but stable condition.
