Lake Charles Police arrested a local man after a woman called for help getting away from a man who was hitting her.
James Lyons, 30, was booked with Aggravated flight from an officer, Possession of Marijuana, No Driver’s License, and No insurance.
Police were called by a cab company early this morning. The dispatcher said a woman called asking for a pick-up, saying she was trying to get away from a man who was hitting her. She was behind a store near the corner of Asher Street and Prien Lake Road, the dispatcher said. She said she could hear the woman telling someone to stop hitting her. The woman told the dispatcher that the man was in a black Volvo, and was driving around, trying to find her.
When officers arrived to Aster and Prien they did see a man in a black Volvo. The man, upon seeing officers, fled in his vehicle, a spokesman said.
Police attempted to stop the Volvo using emergency vehicle lighting but the vehicle failed to stop. They chased the car through several neighborhoods, ending up near the same intersection. The man fled on foot, but officers caught him in the 3100 block of Aster Street, the spokesman said.
The victim also fled the scene and has not contacted police, the spokesman said. Her condition is unknown.
