KATC viewers were eager to provide a name to Pinky the Dolphin’s newest pink friend. In a post on Facebook, KATC asked our viewers to provide this new pink dolphin with a name.

The overwhelming majority of viewers say the name of this dolphin should be Brain, in reference to the 90s cartoon “Pinky and The Brain.” Other contenders were “Blinky”, “Leather” (Tuscadero), and Rose among so many more.

Pinky, according to KPLC, was first spotted in 2007 and has been seen numerous times since.

Last year, a woman and her husband spotted two pink dolphins in the ship channel. Bridget Boudreaux shared a video with KATC at that time saying.

“It was amazing to see. Like I said we saw two but I couldn’t get both on video at the time. I was astonished.”

The full story from 2017 is below.

On Saturday, August 5, 2017, while riding the Calcasieu Ship channel, one woman spotted a rare but well-beloved dolphin.

Bridget Boudreaux says that she was riding with her husband in a boat on the channel when she spotted two dolphins that caught her eye. “It was amazing to see. Like I said we saw two but I couldn’t get both on video at the time. I was astonished.” said Boudreaux.

One of the dolphins, Boudreaux says, jumped by the boat which caught their attention. After a while of watching a single pink dolphin leaped from the water.

“My reaction, well I was in awe about it. It first came up straight out the water and I was like, ‘Whoa! That was a pink dolphin! Stop the boat!!'” Boudreaux said.

The dolphins in the video were following a ship on the Calcasieu Ship Channel headed towards Cameron Parish. Boudreaux mentions to KATC that she saw not one but two rare pink dolphins, but one vanished before she could get a clear photo of it.

Boudreaux said of the encounter with the two dolphins, “When we saw the first one, we stopped to watch them all play. There were regular dolphins and then two pink dolphins. They were either mating or eating. We watched them for a while until that ship came and they went towards it.”

Video of the sighting was taken shortly after spotting the pod. Unfortunately, only one of the pink dolphins makes an appearance.

Pinky the Dolphin, is albino, which makes him one rare breed of dolphin. His pink color has made him famous around the state and country. To see two pink dolphins is an even rarer sight. So does this new companion to Pinky have a name? We have yet to find out.

Boudreaux says that the experience was amazing. “I’m telling you, it was an amazing sighting to see. Pictures don’t do it justice.”
