The Acadia Parish School System is hoping to improve safety and communication with a new transportation alert system.

The system, which uses text messages to communicate transportation information among parents and schools, is online now.

“We are trying to modernize the services we provide,” said Superintendent Scott Richard. “We’re working with our bus company to implement a new text messaging system with parent and schools.”

Communication will be more efficient, and that will improve safety as well, Richard said.

The system is set up – now all the system needs is some participation from parents, he said.

“Communication is a two-way street. We definitely need our parent to go the website and sign up for the system,” Richard said. “We’ll take it from there.”

Richard said he feels this will be a good move for the system.

“It’s a step in the right direction,” he said. “It’s really about customer service. Any time you can increase communication, that’s a step in the right direction.”
