UPDATE: Crowley Police have identified the man who died in a Leslie Amos Street shooting yesterday.

Chief Jimmy Broussard said the victim was Brydon Gray, 26. Gray lived in Crowley and also spent a lot of time in Port Arthur, Texas, the chief said.

The shooting happened at about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Gray was shot several times and was transported to a local hospital, but he died.

Detectives have a person of interest and are following leads, he said.

Information gathered says that the victim and another subject were visiting outside the residence when the suspect approached from the back of the residence and began firing, striking the victim numerous times, he said.

The victim was transported to a local facility, where he was pronounced dead by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office. The body was transported to the Calcasieu Forensics Laboratory for an autopsy. The name of the victim is being withheld at the present time, pending the notification of family.

“Even though we are still trying to determine motive and suspect, it is still such a horrific event that another family has to lose their loved one over a senseless act of violence,” Broussard said. “We are currently following several leads in reference to identifying a person of interest in this. But, we cannot do it alone. We NEED our community’s help to bring this person to justice, and to bring closure to the family.”

Anyone with any information should contact either Crowley Police Investigations Division at 788-4114 or Crimestoppers of Acadia Parish at 789-TIPS.
