EGAN – A man from Oklahoma is dead after crashing while on his motorcycle on the interstate in Acadia Parish.

State police began investigating the accident shortly before noon after they say 52-year-old Larry Walters of Lawton, Oklahoma, was driving his motorcycle eastbound, near LA 91, when his rear tire deflated, causing him to lose control.

Walters was ejected from his motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries.

Troopers don’t know why his tire deflated.

According to a state police spokesman, the victim wasn’t wearing a DOT-approved helmet when he crashed.

Impairment is not suspected, but standard toxicology reports are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers would like to remind motorists to be aware of their surroundings when traveling on the road. Motorcyclists must wear a proper U.S. DOT-approved helmet when riding their motorcycle on Louisiana roads. Although not all crashes are survivable, properly utilizing safety equipment, like approved motorcycle helmets and seatbelts, can decrease your risk of serious injury or death.
