Several local agencies working together have led to the arrest of an Acadia Parish couple and the recovery of stolen vehicles, Sheriff KP Gibson says.

Christopher Byerley, 38 of Broussard and April Viguerie, 37 of Erath were arrested and booked into the Acadia Parish Jail with four counts possession of stolen property; 11 counts possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; and one count possession of an unregistered firearm.

Authorities with the Lafayette Sheriff’s Office and the University of Lafayette Police Department obtained information regarding stolen property being located on Tanner Road in Eastern Acadia Parish. Once on scene, they located a stolen vehicle from Lafayette, he said. Armed with a search warrant, law enforcement officials recovered multiple stolen items and arrested two people.

“The investigation by Lafayette officials led them to the residence on Tanner Road. All items recovered have been identified to the respective victims,” Gibson says.

The property recovered included a 2001 Chevrolet truck and a 2014 Yamaha motorcycle, both reported stolen to the Lafayette Sheriff’s Office; a 2017 Yamaha Dirt bike reported stolen to the Vermilion Sheriff’s Office and a racing bicycle reported stolen to the Lafayette Police Department.

Police also found 11 firearms while executing the search warrant; since both people are convicted felons, the weapons were seized, Gibson says.

Also 11 firearms were located during the search. With both suspects being convicted felons, all firearms were confiscated.
