9:00 a.m. update on Winter Weather from the KATC Newsroom

This morning Acadiana is settling into some very frigid weather.

As of 9:00 a.m. most of the area has been covered in a layer of ice and snow.

Over 11,000 residents are without power. Vermilion, St. Martin and St. Mary Parishes are estimated to have the most outages reported due to the weather as of 9:00 a.m. For more on power outages click here

State Police are advising the public to stay off the roadways and only travel if necessary. Trooper Thomas Gossen says that State Police are just as much as risk to get into accidents while responding to other incidents. For road closures, click here

Lafayette Regional Airport has also canceled flights this morning. They ask that travelers contact the airlines for additional information.

KATC's Daniel Philips says that temperatures will continue to drop through tomorrow morning. A layer of ice will remain in Acadiana but it is promising to see a lot of precipitation move out of the area. A low of 16 is expected tonight.
