One person is in custody after allegedly leading law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase through two parishes.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report of someone driving recklessly in Lafayette around 3:45 p.m. A deputy spotted the suspect on Cameron Street where the suspect almost crashed into the deputy’s unit, according to a spokesman with the sheriff’s office.

Duson police officers assisted deputies with the pursuit that ended at the suspect’s home on N Bradford Avenue  in Rayne.

The spokesman says the suspect got out of the vehicle and continued to unchain a pit bull, commanding the dog to attack the officers.

The suspect was apprehended, and the dog was shot as it went for an officer, the spokesman says.

The suspect was taken to the Acadia Parish Jail and will later be transferred to Lafayette.
