A Look Ahead: What’s happening in Acadiana this week

What’s going on in Acadiana this week? Here are some of the events planned.

On Monday, the Lafayette City-Parish Council will hold its budget hearings on the Fire Department, Public Works Department and Community Development Department. Also on the agenda is the capital budget, which includes road and drainage projects, and the budget of the City Marshal’s office. The meeting begins at 1 p.m. in the council meeting chambers on University Avenue.

On Tuesday, students return to class in the St. Martin Parish School System.

Also on Tuesday, Lafayette Diocese Bishop Douglas Deshotel will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving to dedicate the Family Missions Company’s new chapel in Abbeville at 6 p.m. For more information about the Family Missions Company, click here.

On Wednesday, the Fete Dieu du Vermilion will take place. The day begins in Abbeville at 8 a.m. with a Mass of the Assumption in French at St. Mary Magdalene, celebrated by Lake Charles Bishop Glen J. Provost. The boat procession leaves at 10 a.m., with stops planned at 11:35 AM at Wawees in Milton for a Rosary and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and at 1:40 PM at Ruffino’s in River Ranch for a Rosary and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, then ending at the Beaver Park Boat Landing.  The foot procession to St. John Cathedral will depart the boat landing at 3:45 P.M. and will proceed to the St. John Cathedral, where there will be Solemn Vespers and a Mass of the Assumption at 5:30 p.m. will be celebrated by Bishop Deshotel. There will be shuttle service back to the boat landing.

On Thursday, the Lafayette City-Parish Council again meets to discuss the budget, this time with focus on the Cajundome, the Mayor-President’s Office and the Council Office, among other divisions. The meeting begins at 1 p.m.
