UPDATE: State Police say that one person has been arrested in connection with an overnight shooting that injured a Rayne Police officer.
Troopers say 31-year-old Dustin L. Benoit of Rayne was arrested following the incident which occurred around 11:30 pm on Monday, August 26 in the 800 block of N. Polk Ave.
Following the investigation, it was found that a Rayne officer was shot some point after making contact with Benoit. Benoit then fled the scene and was later apprehended.
Troopers say that the officer never discharged a weapon during the interaction. The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later released.
Benoit was booked into the Acadia Parish jail for LRS 14:27/30 Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer. Further charges are pending. This remains an active investigation, and there is no further information available at this time.

State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Rayne.
According to sources close to the investigation, the incident happened around midnight near Kennedy Field. An investigation began early on Tuesday, August 27.
Rayne Police Chief Carroll Stelly has referred all questions to State Police. Troopers say they were on the scene this morning but the area has been cleared. Information on the shooting will be released later Tuesday morning.
