Suspect in Rayne fatal shooting arrested, facing murder charge

The suspect wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Rayne Monday afternoon has been arrested.

According to Rayne Police, at around 2 p.m. Tuesday detectives located the 2003 Buick Sedan Prejean that 27-year-old Trey Prejean used to flee the scene abandoned at a home in the 100 block of Barbusse Road near Duson after receiving an anonymous tip.

Law enforcement from Duson and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office responded to assist detectives with the search for the suspect and vehicle recovery.

Prejean surrendered at the Acadia Parish jail shortly before 5 p.m., where he was arrested on one count of second degree murder.

Rayne Chief of Police Carroll J. Stelly identified the victim in the Monday afternoon shooting on The Boulevard and its intersection with Arceneaux Drive as 38-year-old Dalvin Washington from Rayne.

Prejean was identified as a suspect and a warrant issued for his arrest for second degree murder.
