A Rayne man has been arrested following an investigation into a shooting that injured a Rayne Police officer overnight.
Troopers say that shortly after 12:30 am on August 27, the Rayne Police Department requested their assistance in investigating the incident.
The shooting occurred at around 11:30 pm on Monday, August 26 in the 800 block of N. Polk Ave.
31-year-old Dustin L. Benoit of Rayne was arrested in that incident.
An investigation by state police found that the officer was shot some time after coming into contact with Benoit. Troopers say Benoit fled the area on foot and was later apprehended.
State Police say that the officer did not discharge a weapon during the incident. The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later released.
Benoit was booked into the Acadia Parish jail for LRS 14:27/30 Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer. Further charges are pending.
The investigation is ongoing. No other information was available.
