Church Point Police: Evacuate if you usually flood

Church Point Police are asking residents who live in areas that usually flood to voluntarily evacuate.

"We have been asked to issue a Voluntary Evacuation for those low lying areas where flooding normally occurs. This is crucial because with a small window of 10 to 12 hours between hurricanes we may not be able to rescue you. We have been told that if you do decide to shelter in place have enough supplies and medical supplies to last for 72 hours at the least. There will be no shelters that will be opened up in this area by the State due to Covert-19 restrictions. We have been informed by the Ambulance services that once winds get to 40 mph they will not be out running calls. We will do what we can to rescue you and help you here in Town but at no time will i place any of my Officers lives in jeopardy trying to do a rescue," Chief Dale Thibodeaux says in a Facebook post.
