Surveillance video released today shows the moment a person driving the wrong way on Bourbon Street encountered State Police.

State Troopers were assisting with the closing of traffic bollards in the 200 block of Bourbon Street Thursday night when they observed a Kia Forte traveling against traffic towards pedestrians.

Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver refused to comply. As the vehicle continued towards a crowd of pedestrians, the Trooper shot at the vehicle.

The shooting of a driver traveling the wrong way on Bourbon Street is now under investigation by Louisiana State Police. That shooting involved a Trooper who officials say fired his gun after the driver would not comply.

State Police say that around 7:00 pm on May 30, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop N were assisting with the closing of traffic bollards in the 200 block of Bourbon Street when they observed a Kia Forte traveling against traffic towards pedestrians.

The driver of the Kia allegedly made an illegal turn onto Bourbon Street, traveling westbound from Bienville Street.

Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver refused to comply. As the vehicle continued towards a crowd of pedestrians, the Trooper shot at the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was struck once by a bullet and is currently in stable condition.

Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations is currently conducting the on-going investigation, assisted by the New Orleans Police Department.
