At the Billboard Music Awards Wednesday night, Lafayette native Lauren Daigle wowed the crowd with a performance of her song “You Say.”
Hours before the show began, Daigle snagged the award for the Top Christian Artist. Daigle was up against other artists including Cory Asbury, For King & Country, Hillsong Worship and Mercy Me.

Daigle has also been nominated for Top Christian Album for “Look Up Child” and her song “You Say.”
A little more than halfway through the show Daigle took the stage to sing one of her hit songs, “You Say.” Social media was abuzz after the performance saying.
The Hollywood Reporter called the performance “emotional” and a song that “softened the mood.” The contrast came after up-tempo performances from Madonna, Jonas Brothers, and Halsey.
Most viewers noted the significance of Daigle performing at the event as a Christian artist.
@Lauren_Daigle singing a Christian song about God’s love at a non-Christian event watched by million is everything right now. She’s definitely deserving of the Best Christian Artist award at the #BBMAs
