Earlier this month KATC won a first place Associated Press award for “Coffee With Mr. Lester.”

It’s the story of Lester Boyer, a World War II veteran, who continues to serve his country. Boyer volunteers at Lafayette’s VA clinic, where you’ll find him brewing fresh coffee and often dancing out front to greet patients as they arrive.

Since Boyer was clearly the star of the show, we figured he deserved the award. We presented it to him at his coffee stand Friday morning.

“I love it, it’s beautiful,” said Mr. Lester. “I can’t smile any bigger!”

Boyer, 93, says he has no plans to stop volunteering.

“I had a calling for this,” he said. “I’m a God-fearing man and God has called me for this work.”

As for a celebration?
