LAFAYETTE (KATC) — LADOTD says it’s ultimately responsible for making sure debris like tree branches, garbage, and sediment is cleared from underneath Acadiana bridges and culverts.
Given this season’s heavy rains, many bridges in Acadiana are experiencing heavy debris blockages leading many people to ask whose job is it to clean it up.
The agency says it normally checks on bridges every two years but does follow up within six to eight months on bridges experiencing issues with heavy debris blockages.
DOTD says while it does it’s best to check on bridges, it also relies on the public to make it aware of problem spots.
