Drowning is the second leading cause of death of children in Louisiana. City of Lafayette Aquatics has teamed up with Lafayette General Foundation to provide swimming lessons for kids this summer.

The team kicked off their second season of Sal’s Summer of Swim with a BBQ Thursday evening. Last year over 150 kids took part in swimming lessons and learned more about water safety. It’s a program that coaches like Sarah Landreneau says will keep kids safe. “It’s really important not only to teach the kids how to swim, but educate them about water safety and to be able to educate their families and their parents”, says Landreneau.”

Sal’s Summer of Swim is named for Sal Diesi, a swim team parent, official, and swimming supporter who passed away suddenly in 2017. If you qualify, you can register for free swimming lessons at this year’s Water Safety Day. That happens at the Robichaux Center May 5th. For more information go to www.colaswim.org
