An unlikely pair of friends are sticking together, forever, after being surrendered to a Boston area animal shelter several weeks ago.

On Monday, the MSPCA-Angell shelter in Boston announced that Kitty, a 6-year-old tabby, and Leila, a 2-year-old chihuahua, had found their forever home.

The pair arrived at the shelter in the same carrier and staff say they recognized that the two shared an inseparable bond. The shelter, which normally houses dogs and cats separately, made arrangements for Kitty and Leila to remain near each other during their stay.

After a news story highlighting the animal couple aired, several people came forward to inquire about adopting them. A Massachusetts couple adopted Kitty and Leila together over the weekend, making sure their bond remains intact.

The shelter says that Kitty and Leila’s previous owners did not abandon their pets. According to WBZ in Boston, their owners lost their home and were unable to find housing that would accept them.
