LAFAYETTE (KATC) – Smiles all around as Orynn Veillon hit a walk-off home run in the 12th Wednesday lifting the Cajuns past Southern Miss 6-5.
The Lafayette native entered the at-bat having struck out seven of his last ten at bats, but righted any wrongs with one swing. For his heroics Veillon received a celebratory ice bath, and shaving cream pie in the face.
Before the at bat, coach Tony Robichiax told Orynn he might pitch in the game. (He’s pitched one other game this season) Robichaux joked that Veillon apparently didn’t like that decisions so he hit a home run instead.
The win snaps the Cajuns three-game losing streak.
