In Avoyelles Parish, students going to public schools will now be on a 4-day schedule.
According to KALB, the Avoyelles Parish School Board voted on the 4-day a week schedule on Tuesday evening. The change in the week will be implemented starting in the next school year (2019-2020).
The board voted 7-2 in favor of the new, shorter school week.
The school board in a post in February said they were considering the change with these specifications.
Every week would be a 4 day week running Tuesday-Friday, and the school day would be extended, not the school year. No holidays would be cut.
The board also said that that they considered adding 10 to 15 minutes in the morning and 45-50 minutes in the afternoon or adding the whole hour to the end of the day.
It is unclear what the board has chosen.
“We believe it will help us recruit and retain teachers and we believe it will save money,” the school board said in a statement.
