A great white shark was caught off of a pier near a popular beach destination.
WEAR in Pensacola reports that a 10-foot, 700-pound great white shark was caught Tuesday off of Navarre Beach Pier.
The fisherman who caught the shark is a member of the True Blue Sharks fishing group. He says it’s been about 40 years since a great white has been caught in the area.
The process of reeling in the animal took a little under an hour. The fisherman says it usually takes only about 15 minutes.
The shark was quickly tagged and released.
Data on the shark will be sent to the NOAA’s Apex Predators Research Program.
