Melanie Harrington, education coordinator from Vermilionville, stopped by GMA today to talk about a few events that are taking place on February 24.

The Courir de Mardi Gras is a traditional country Mardi Gras run that is put on by the Basile Mardi Gras Association. The run is through the village starting at 11:30am and ends with the famous chicken-chase. Following the race, FeuFollett will kick things off in the Performance Center during the Le Bal du Dimanche à Vermilionville.

This year, the event will include a Mangé: A Community Celebration of Foodways. This celebration is part of the National Endowment for the Arts and Decentralized Arts Funding. During this segment of the day, cooks, chefs, artists, writers, poets, folklorists/anthropologists/historians, and musicians will be conversing, demonstrating and celebrating traditional foodways!

Artwork will be showcased, cooking demonstrations will take place, poetry and literature will be read, and the screening of foodways inspired films will be shown during the event.

Admission is $5 per person ($4 for members) and ages 3 and under are admitted free.
