The St. Landry School Board has appointed John Miller’s defeated opponent to fill his seat.
Miller died last week. He was elected to the board last fall, defeating incumbent Milton Ambres. Miller’s widow, Catherine Miller, also wanted to be appointed to the seat.

Ambres was first elected to the board in 2013, to serve out Miller’s term when he resigned after being convicted of bribery.
In other business, the board approved a school calendar that includes a week of vacation following Easter Sunday.
