LAFAYETTE (PRESS RELEASE) – Qualifying families can receive free tax preparation and have a chance to win money during Super Tax Day events being held throughout February and March.
Entergy and United Way of Acadiana volunteers will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Northside High School Library, 301 Dunand Street, and on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lafayette Public Library, 301 Congress Street, to assist qualifying families with tax preparation and a variety of other services, including help with claiming federal earned income tax credit (EITC).
“Through our volunteers and partners, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program helps people keep more of what they’ve earned, and it makes a real difference in their lives. As customers’ lives improve, communities will benefit; we all benefit,” said Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana president and CEO.
EITC is one of the nation’s most effective means of lifting needy Americans out of poverty. Throughout its service territory of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, Entergy has helped approximately 127,000 customers receive $224 million through the EITC program since 2011. In Louisiana alone, more than 44,000 residents have received more than $72 million.
Residents who agree to save part of their total refund at Super Tax Day events will have an opportunity to win up to $50 in cash through a scratch-off card promotion and will be entered in other drawings, including a $10,000 grand prize from the national SaveYourRefund program.
In some locations, local community partners are offering appointments for tax preparation services at local VITA sites throughout the tax-filing season, drop-off tax prep services, financial coaching, budget workshops, free legal services and more.
