The American Heart Association’s annual Go Red for Women luncheon in Lafayette highlights the fight against the No. 1 killer of women— heart disease

Go Red for Women is the American Heart Association’s national movement to end heart disease and stroke in women

Lafayette, January 22, 2019 — Today, the American Heart Association, the leading voluntary health organization devoted to a world of longer, healthier lives, announced the 2019 Acadiana Go Red for Women Luncheon. This premier event will be held at CajunDome Convention Center on Thursday, February 7th. The annual event is designed to raise awareness of the leading cause of death in women: cardiovascular disease. The event is chaired by Angie Begnaud, Executive Vice President/Chief Clinical Officer of LHC Group. The Acadiana Go Red for Women Luncheon is sponsored nationally by CVS Health and locally by LHC Group, UBS Financial, Schumacher Clinical Partners and International Paper.

While nearly 80 percent of cardiac events may be prevented, cardiovascular diseases continue to be a woman’s greatest health threat. One in three women is living with some form of cardiovascular disease and it kills one woman about every 80 seconds. To treat, beat and prevent cardiovascular diseases, women should understand family health history, know their numbers and make lifestyle changes like moving more, eating smart and managing their blood pressure. Risk factors that are within women’s control include smoking, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, physical inactivity, poor diet, obesity/overweight and diabetes.

The luncheon features keynote speakers including Katie Lopez from KATC as this year’s Emcee, inspiring local survivor stories, a silent auction and more. Individual tickets and tables of 10 for the Acadiana Go Red for Women luncheon are still available, payable in advance. To purchase tickets and for more information, please contact or visit http://AcadianaGoRed.heart.org.
