You may have already seen people whizzing around Lafayette on Bird and Lime scooters.

According to Downtown District Authority (DDA) CEO Anita Begnaud, city officials are happy the scooters are bringing more people downtown and to more downtown locations.

However, people need to think about their safety and the safety of others when using the scooters.

“If you’re going to use the sidewalk, please be mindful of people walking on the sidewalk. Please treat it like a road, and obey traffic signs. And, don’t stop real short and do tricks on the sidewalk because it does scuff them up, and we want to maintain a beautiful downtown.”

She says the city needs to think about the maintenance required for downtown infrastructure when they consider regulations for the scooters.

Lafayette doesn’t currently have sold regulations put in place yet, according to Begnaud, but that’s something the city is working on right now.
