Annual Red Mass honors members of legal profession

The Red Mass is a historic tradition in the Catholic church dating back to the thirteenth century.

The annual Red Mass for peace and justice took place today at St. John the Evangelist Cathedral in Lafayette.

Participants include government officials, lawyers, and judges and they traditionally wear red signifying the guidance of the Holy Spirit in their pursuit of justice.

The tradition is celebrated in Lafayette at the beginning of the year.
