Residents in Carencro say they heard a sound Thursday morning that they never want to hear again.

At about 10:30 am they noticed the wind picking up and before they could even react, they say a twister dropped down and large objects began flying through the air.

“The weather doesn’t usually scare me, but I was painting, I had the blinds open, and I just saw the wind pick up through the window, and all of a sudden it was just howling. Different than anything I ever heard before,” said Braquet Road resident Garrett Lassalle.

Lassalle’s home surveillance camera caught some of the extreme wind force.

Lenray Laige’s property was next in line as the twister barreled through the neighborhood. It took the roof clear off of his mortar and brick pump house and then totaled his gazebo just a few yards away.

“I feel blessed because this is nothing. I still have a roof over my head and otherwise, I wouldn’t. All of this is minor damage,” said Laige.

Eric Fontenot’s property was next in line.

“Coming from the southwest it came across heading this way. Limbs are broken, and coming this way it tore off some big limbs off my oak tree and just kept moving off that way. No one got hurt. Everybody’s safe, so you know thank God that’s all that happened,” said Fontenot.

Every resident we spoke to all remarked that it was fortunate and astounding that the twister didn’t directly hit any of their homes.

“We heard the noise, we really didn’t know what was going on, except that it just got louder and louder and the wind was picking up. And, I was like let’s just get to the center of the house, and we have a big closet and we just kinda piled up into the closet you know hoping that everything was going to be ok. And, like I said within seconds it was there, and then seconds it was gone,” explained Fontenot.
