A child has been taken into custody following an investigation into a fire at a Dollar General store in Scott.

Firefighters say that on Monday, December 10, 2018, at around 4:19 p.m., the Scott Fire Department was called to a fire at the Dollar General store on Westgate Road.

Upon arrival, store employees informed firefighters there was a fire on one of the aisles, which customers and store employees attempted to extinguish.

An investigation into the incident revealed the fire was set by a child, Fire Chief Chad Sonnier says. That child was taken into custody by Lafayette Fire Department Arson Investigators and Scott Police Department.

A photo provided by Scott Fire Department shows that a few clothing items appeared to have been burned.
